SR-39 Roundabout

Project Overview
PROJECT UPDATE
Construction is wrapping up for the winter season. Crews will return in spring 2026 to complete a chip seal on the new asphalt surface, final roadway striping and right-of-way fencing,
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
In an effort to improve traffic flow and safety at the intersection of SR-39 and Main Street (100 South) in Huntsville, UDOT is constructing a new roundabout. Project completion is expected by late fall 2025.
During construction, crews will strive to maintain all-way traffic through the intersection. Drivers should expect intermittent thru and turn lane closures, flagging operations and minor travel delays. To help minimize delays on weekends, no traffic restrictions will be in place from 2 p.m. on Fridays through 5 a.m. on Mondays. All travel lanes will also be open during holiday timeframes.
The new roundabout will feature a free right-turn (no stop required) for northbound SR-39 traffic to eastbound SR-39 towards Monte Cristo. Also, a little larger roundabout design than is typical will be built to accommodate larger recreational traffic and trailers that travel frequently through the area.
The project will make history as the first roundabout constructed on a state road by UDOT’s Region One, which includes the six counties north of Salt Lake City.

WEBER CANYON BRIDGE WORK

Project Overview
Project Description
UDOT will reconstruct the eastbound and westbound I-84 Weber River/Union Pacific Railroad bridges two miles east from the mouth of Weber Canyon in Weber County.
This project will provide two new structures at this location, each with an anticipated service life of 75 years. These new bridges will also provide updated typical sections, along with improved detailing and geometry, resulting in a safer and more efficient facility for the traveling public.
Please stay tuned for additional information as it becomes available.

SR-158 Runaway Truck Ramp

Project Overview
A new truck escape ramp is currently being constructed on S.R. 158 west of Powder Mountain Resort. The catch-net cable system is relatively new to Utah and uses a series of cable nets to stop runaway trucks coming down the canyon.
The escape ramp uses a concrete chute to guide runaway tricks into the correct position, were cable restraints are then used to stop the trucks. When a truck hits the cables, they are designed to wrap around the truck, causing it to lose speed and eventually stop.

SR-158 NEAR PINEVIEW
Project Overview
Ogden City is replacing a critical 36-inch diameter water transmission pipeline that conveys water from the City’s wellfield adjacent to Pineview Reservoir, through Ogden Canyon, and to the City’s 23rd Street reservoirs. This pipeline has served Ogden City well for nearly 100 years and needs to be replaced. The project will be completed in multiple phases between 2025 and 2029.
