Ogden Valley Road Closures & Restrictions

A full road closure is one where travel is closed to both uphill and downhill traffic, typically as a result of high avalanche hazard or the need for avalanche control work. 

Only authorized personnel are allowed on the road, including UDOT road operations, avalanche mitigation crews, law enforcement, and emergency vehicles.

The public, including but not limited to residents, ski resort traffic (employees and visitors) and backcountry users, is required to wait until the road is open to public travel.

Powder Mountain Road (SR-158) is the only road in the area subject to avalanche closures, with seven slide paths along the road. Closures for avalanche mitigation are dependent on conditions, and they can last anywhere from one hour to several hours if there are slides to clear.

Other state roads don’t have avalanche risk but could temporarily close due to other emergency incidents such as crashes or fires.

Yes, Monte Cristo Highway is fully open for the summer months (typically mid-May to late November), and closes for the winter (typically from late November to mid-May) just east of Ant Flat Road.

The opening and closure of Monte Cristo Highway is dependent on snow and road maintenance resources.
