BE CAUTIOUS: Watch for crews and lane shifts. Reduce your speed and don’t drive distracted.

    Ogden Canyon Restrictions

Vehicles longer than 50 feet are not permitted to travel in Ogden Canyon (SR-39 between the canyon mouth and Pineview Dam).

UDOT implemented this safety measure in September 2025, after a study discovered that vehicles over a length of 50 feet cannot travel through some sections without encroaching on the opposite lane.

To travel between Ogden and Huntsville, these vehicles must reroute using Weber Canyon (I-84) and Trappers Loop (SR-167).

The North Ogden Divide should NOT be used as an alternate route; this county road is a more difficult route than Ogden Canyon with challenges such as steep drop-offs, sharp curves, and rockfall.

    Monte Cristo Highway (SR-39)

Monte Cristo Highway (SR-39) is closed for the winter. The closure is in effect between milepost 37, just east of Huntsville near Ant Flat Road, and milepost 56, located near Woodruff in Rich County.

During the closure, motorists who would normally use the Monte Cristo Highway to cross the Monte Cristo summit should plan on using alternate routes. Recommended detours include US-89 through Logan Canyon, or a combination of Utah SR-16, Wyoming SR-89, I-80, and I-84 to access communities east and west of the summit. When UDOT closes the highway, it will remain out of service until at least spring.

Due to its high elevation, the Monte Cristo Highway can be impacted by heavy snowfall in a matter of hours and typically closes from late November through May.

SR-39 Monte Cristo Highway will open on May 4, 2026.
